Toast the two slices of bread until they are golden brown and crispy. Whilst still warm, spread the butter generously over each slice, allowing it to melt into the bread. Sprinkle the sugar evenly over the buttered toast. Finish by sprinkling the aniseed over the top, pressing gently so the seeds adhere to the butter and sugar. Serve immediately whilst warm and the butter is still soft. This simple traditional Dutch snack is best enjoyed with a cup of coffee or tea.
