Mix the wholemeal flour, plain flour and salt in a large bowl. Make a well in the centre and gradually add warm water, mixing with your hands until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough for approximately 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and roll each into a ball, then flatten slightly into a disc. Heat a dry cast iron griddle or heavy frying pan over a medium-high heat. Cook each tyril for 3-4 minutes on each side until lightly spotted and cooked through, brushing with melted butter as they cook. Serve warm with butter and traditional Faroese accompaniments such as dried fish, cheese or preserves.
