Overnight oats with chia and berries

Method

Pour the milk into a jar or container with a lid, then add the rolled oats and chia seeds. Stir thoroughly to break up any clumps and distribute the chia seeds evenly; they'll absorb liquid as the mixture sits and help thicken the base through hydration. Add the honey and stir again until combined.

Cover the jar and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 4 hours. The oats will soften and the chia seeds will swell, creating a pudding-like consistency. If the mixture seems too thick in the morning, loosen it with a splash of milk until you reach your preferred texture.

Roughly crush or chop about half the berries and fold them through the oats; the juices will distribute flavour throughout. Top with the remaining berries whole or halved. Serve straight from the fridge; the cold temperature keeps the oats firm rather than mushy. If you prefer it warmer, transfer to a bowl and microwave gently until it reaches room temperature, though this is optional.
