Soak the beans overnight in cold water, then drain and rinse thoroughly. Heat oil in a large pot and sauté the chopped onions and crushed garlic until softened, then add paprika and tomato paste, stirring well. Add the drained beans, smoked pork ribs, bay leaves, salt and pepper, then cover with water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer gently for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally and adding more water if needed, until the beans are completely tender and the liquid has thickened into a rich, hearty stew. The pork should fall apart easily and the beans should be creamy. Taste and adjust seasoning, then serve hot in deep bowls.
