Heat a barbecue hotplate or frying pan to medium-high heat and lightly oil the surface. Place the sausages on the hotplate and cook for 12-15 minutes, turning regularly until golden brown and cooked through. In a separate pan, melt the butter and sauté the sliced onions over medium heat for 8-10 minutes until softened and lightly caramelised, seasoning with salt and pepper. Toast the bread slices lightly on the barbecue or under a grill. Place each cooked sausage between two bread slices or in a single slice folded in half, top with the sautéed onions, and drizzle generously with tomato sauce and barbecue sauce. Serve immediately whilst hot.
