Heat a flat hotplate or frying pan to medium-high and cook the pork sausage for 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned and cooked through. Whilst the sausage cooks, sauté the diced onion in a separate pan with a small knob of butter over medium heat until soft and slightly caramelised, about 5 minutes. Lightly toast the bread slice or warm it slightly on the hotplate. Once the sausage is cooked, place it on the bread and top generously with the cooked onion, then drizzle with tomato sauce and barbecue sauce to taste. Serve immediately whilst warm.
